Job Purpose:The Associate Director is responsible for technical excellence, managing delivery of technical content for multiple environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA), providing clear directions on scope management, understanding planning, infrastructure design, and construction-specific opportunities and constraints to identify optimal solutions to avoid/mitigate environmental and social impacts, and staff mentoring.Job Responsibilities:Strategic ContributionAssist with the implementation of the annual business plan and targets and execute the strategic agenda of the Environmental Governance function to deliver RSG vision and mission.Ensure that the strategy is translated into operational business plans for the Environmental Governance function and monitor the performance and execution of those plans to achieve functional objectives and deliver the company’s strategy.Budget Contribute to the preparation of the functional budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.Environmental AssessmentAct as interface with the Project Delivery Team to understand the specific requirements of development and prepare detailed scopes of work for ESIA studies.Oversee and accept ownership of supervising environmental and social performance of specific allocated projects.Lead and manage the delivery of multiple and complex ESIA studies in sensitive ecosystems independently.Be the lead interface with consultants relative to their inquiries, requests for information, and any and all written and verbal communications with consultants about technical content of ESIA at corporate and project delivery levels.Conduct technical reviews of ESIA studies with a view to making the output robust and technically sound.Identify opportunities and propose innovative solutions for adding value in an ESIA.Create high quality work products/formal reports appropriate for public disclosure that clearly and logically frame risk identification and mitigation.Interface with internal and external regulators to defend the ESIA and secure approvals in a timely manner.Assess the capability levels within the organization and provide on-the-job training to junior colleagues.Represent the organization at technical meetings, industry events and environmental forums, as required.Knowledge of EMS and support on implementation of organization’s EMS with the ability to provide continuous monitoring and improvement.Serve as an internal leader and “go to” specialist for environmental assessments.Qualification and Experience: At least fifteen (15) years of professional experience which must comprise working in a diverse consulting environment, as well as operating as a client managing consultants’ performance.Project experience in the Middle East is required.Demonstrable ESIA experience with effective application of IFC Performance Standards on large-scale projects (at least two projects with an overall value in excess of (USD 200 million).Demonstrable experience of conducting and/or managing at least 2-3 ESIA studies in protected areas / sensitive ecological environments.At least a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science or a closely related discipline from a renowned institution.
